Precision. Synchronicity. Drama. Excellence. All of these convulged in the 2012 SPC cheerleading competition, September 29, 2012.

BSN-RT Archangels grasped first place. They were followed by the LabSci Legions, Red Dragons, and the TheraPharm Knights in the order of decreasing rank.

Preserving their esteemed seat in the cheerleading hierarchy, the Archangels presented an incredibly synchronized performance. This was made jawdroppingly awesome by the superb stunts and lifts they have pulled. Cheerleading in the beat of Christian Music, the BSN-RT Archangels has proven once more how fierce an angel can be.

SPC’s Dragon took center stage as it roamed around the gymnasium during the Art and Sciences team’s performance. The team exhibited profound flexes, scorpions, standing splits, and “The Grudge” inspired back bending. The Red Dragons have shown how true of a dragon they were, especially in their dragonling-like scaly costume.

The TheraPharm Knights resembled warriors fresh from battle in their fearless facial expressions and beautifully messed-up hair. Gymnastic prowess is evident in their performance, strong and bold like the knights of the medieval ages.

The performers became drones to a queen that carried a huge crown. The audience became drones to the performance. Their synchronized steps and perfect series moves were mezmerizing. They have truly made the earth tremble beneath their feet with the powerful show they have presented last night. Truly, the LabSci Legions exuded an aura that made other teams feel as if they were microbes.

But right after this spectacular perfomace, shouts of “overtime” filled the arena. Everyone was shocked. The Secretariat branch of Komiti ni Pedro who took the official time was especially surprised.

Nothing was more dramatic than the victory mash at the center of the gym. The Legions cried, the Knights consoled them. The Angels expressed victory, sometimes more lavishly than what should be expressed. The “U mad bro?” face was flashed to the Legions and then retracted. Nevertheless, the night was happy.

A testimony of the spirit of cometition, the SPC cheerleading competition surmounted expectations.

Hopeful crowd assembled themselves in the SPC gymnasium as another set of basketball games played by the four teams transpired last September 29, 2012. Red Blooded Dragons can’t help but to scream their lungs out as their Basketball men claims back-to-back victory over the ArchAngels and the Therapharm Knights. Red Dragons defeated the Therapharm Knights in a 73-65 win, and the ArchAngels in a 101-77 victory.

It was also a double win for the LabSci Legions after overpowering the Therapharm Knights and the ArchAngels. It was a close fight between the ArchAngels and the LabSci Legions, but the yellow team has proven that they are better than the blue team after beating them in a 94-89 win. On the other hand, Legions has knocked out the knights in an 72-57 victory.

As of the moment, the winning teams, LabSci Legions and the Red Dragons are preparing for their championship game everyone hungers for.

The temperature on the open court became even hotter as the game between the ArchAngels and the LabSci Legions took place last September 29, 2012.

It was a close fight between the Legions and the Angels. On the first set, the ArchAngels beat the Legions, 23-25. On the Second set, the Legions outplayed the ArchAngels, 25-10. And on the last Set, the Legions bested the ArchAngels in a 12-25 win.

This is a double victory for the Legions after defeating the ArchAngels in the Men’s basketball game.

For the first time in San Pedro College history, Soccer has been included in the list of the official sports event for this year’s Intramurals. Last September 29, 2012, the first soccer game was held at the Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines, Davao City Soccer Field.

The men’s soccer game was participated by three teams, Filipino Red Dragons, Foreign students Red Dragons, and Therapharm Knights. On the other hand, the women’s soccer game was partaken by the Foreign students Red Dragons and the Therapharm knights.

The Foreign Students Red Dragons claimed back-to-back victory over the Red Dragons and The Therapharm Knights after winning the two games in the men’s division. The Therapharm knights ranked second after defeating the Filipino Red Dragons. The Filipino Red Dragons occupied the third spot.

Despite the soccer training that the foreign students have acquired during their stay in their respective countries, the Therapharm knights female wins gold, defeating the Foreign students in a 1-2 and 0 -2 victory in the first game and the second game, respectively.

Despite the scorching heat of the sun, the participating teams have done their best to give justice to the expectations of their respective teammates.

A night of vocal warfare with a mixture of definite impersonation transpired last night as the 4 teams battled for four competitions.

The wind did not stop the echoes of the participant’s voices as they showed the power of their voices in the vocal solo, vocal duet and acoustic competition.

The voices of the participants of vocal solo and duet reached sky high as they sang Original Pinoy Music (OPM) medleys. With their various interpretations embedded into their style of singing, they battled through the competition with the LabSci Legions emerging as victor in the vocal solo and Therapharm Knights in the vocal duet.

The acoustic competition transformed various music genres to smooth acoustic music. The relaxing tune made the crowd cheer for their bets, but only one could be champion and that award was achieved by the Red Dragons.

The most awaited event of the night was the impersonation that was filled with K-Pop inspired performances. The stage was star studded with the appearance of 2NE1 of Red Dragons, Miss A of Arch Angels, Wonder Girls of LabSci Legions and the Kanto Boys of the TheraPharm Knights.

Dances and lip synchronizations were done and even the artist’s costumes were mimicked to achieve the stage presence the artists have.

As we say history repeats itself, and as the Dragons, the former champion, reclaims the title with the same impersonated artists, the phrase substantiated itself.

The Rock, the Official Student Publication of San Pedro College, in collaboration with the Assistant OSA Director, Mr. Reynaldo Garote, had organized the General Information and Current Events Quiz bee last September 27, 2012 at the PL hall. This is in celebration of this year’s Intramurals.

The said event was participated by 16 bona fide students of San Pedro College. The questions of the quiz bee were comprised of general information and current events questions.

The competition between the participants was scorching hot, but Dex Marco Guibelondo, a student from BS in Pharmacy 2A, ranked first in the Quiz bee. Dex, together with the second placer will be representing San Pedro College in Association of Private Schools, State Colleges and Universities in Region XI General Information and Current Events quiz bee this coming November 2012.

Jimmy Sotello of the Nursing Archangels was hailed as the Mr. Intramurals 2012 first runner up together with Mhinxylle Hollite also from the Archangels. Dane Rhodenburg of the Red Dragons and Lua Eugenio of the TheraPharm Knights were the second runners up.  Eric Yu of the Knights and Jessa Trillanes of the Red Dragons grabbed the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2012 3^rd runners up.

“It was exciting and the experience was great. We [the candidates] did not feel the tension of the competition because we were like close friends. There was no feeling of inferiority.  However, the pressure was also high since the Legions reigned as last year’s Mr. and Ms. Intramurals.  I did not expect to win. Actually, we did not have enough practice on how we should move around the stage. I only wanted to get through it and hoped not to break the legacy,” said Ken Limsiaco, Mr. Intramurals 2012.

Coined as IPAG, the Interim Performing Arts Group of San Pedro College exhibited a fiery concoction of dance, song, and theater in its debut performance during the opening of the institution’s 2012-2013 intramurals.

The show portrayed the humble and noble beginnings of the institution, a force originally created out of love through giving education and improving health among the original inhabitants of Davao. It has highlighted the specific roles of the pioneer nuns who reached out and shared Christ’s compassion. What was more interesting was the fact that the nuns’ roles were given life by actual SPC nuns!

The group truly showed how a blend of vocal, rhythmic, and theatrical skills could ever be present in a single soul, an SPCian’s soul. With the lilting beats of the drums, the performers’ bodies swayed into rhythm, depicting beautiful curves and lines while portraying a cultural dance imbued with  stories of a tribe’s livelihood, a couple’s love, and birth and modernization.

With beautiful cadenzas sung live by actual SPC students and backed up live by student instrumentalists, the rich culture of Davao and the vast pool of talents SPC has to offer and take pride in were given prime attention.

From ballet to ethnic music and dance, from the intricate waves of the native cultural dances to the quick and snappy movements of Michael Jackson’s music, the IPAG has proven that they do not deserve to stay interim.

They have protected Davao’s rich culture through artistic expression. They have given deeper appreciation to current forms of art. They have and hopefully will make our hairs stand once more.

Shrieks and yells from the different teams filled the entire SPC gym during the much anticipated Formal Cheering on the first day of Intramurals, September 26, 2012. The four teams, Archangels, LabSci Legions, Red Dragons, and the Therapharm Knights have showcased performances like no other. The highlight of the night was the appearance of a Gundam from the LabSci Legions that made everyone scream as it grooved into the dance floor.

The competition between the four teams was scorching hot and tight. But the judges came up with surprising results. Both the LabSci Legions and the Archangels got the First place, followed by the teams, Red Dragons and Therapharm Knights on the second spot.

The first day has just ended and SPC Intramurals 2012 still have so much in store for everyone.

An institutional mass preceded the day’s main event. Headed by the SALIGAN and followed by each team’s representatives, the motorcade roared to life. Screaming souls filled the court as their respective candidates for the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals modelled their team’s shirt with their most impressive poses to catch the eyes of the judges.
